Umbrali, living shadows born of darkness and chaos, a remnant of a soul that has suffered far too much, created in a single moment when all of that souls ‘light’ is lost; they thrive in the shadows between worlds (and on them), devouring those souls that wander too far from the light. As a shadow can change shape, so too can an umbrali, though in the light, their skin and eyes reveals their true selves. As they are considered children of chaos and darkness. there is a small group that hunts them, declaring themselves agents of order and light, each one wielding a blade specially forged to hunt the umbrali; and while this order knows that soul consumed by a umbrali is lost forever, the death of an umbrali releases that ‘energy’ back into the universe.

Rune remembers everything that caused her to become a umbrali, the sorrow, agony and pain of her old life still lingers, despite it been millennia since she ‘lived’, oh she loves spreading chaos, its fun and exciting, but as far as umbrali are concerned shes quite…. laid back… until she comes across something (a soul or a scene) that dregs up old memories, then her demeanor shifts, becoming a monster of nightmares, gorging herself on all the souls around her (then usually falling asleep for centuries)

Most umbrali will consume any soul that wanders their way, Rune is far more picky, she gets the most nutrition (and amusement) by consuming the souls that most remind her of those that hurt her so long ago…. and well… who is going to miss them. she is a survivor, having never fallen to the blades the umbrali hunters carry, despite how often she is hunted, and some hunters shes even developed a fondness for, playing with them for decades before they fade.
